South Philadelphia / BOK Athletic Super Site Dedication Ceremony
On Friday, October 17,
2008 the neighbors, political and civic members were invited by the
Philadelphia School District to attend a Dedication Ceremony for this Super
Site.
The South Philadelphia High School color guard and
drum line tapped to the beat of the national anthem, as School District of
Philadelphia administrators officially unveiled the South Philadelphia super
site
The football field and surrounding track served as
the stage for this October 17, 2008 Dedication Ceremony. The site also has
a two full-sized baseball fields and two practice football fields, which
double as soccer fields. High school football teams from public schools
Furness, Prep Charter, High School of the Future, Southern and Bok, as well
as Catholic school Neumann-Goretti, use the field for home games.

2003-2004 We were involved with the planning and
monitoring of the Veteran's Stadium implosion project.
|
 |
2000 -2004 The SPCCA actively participated (and
was the lead group) in negotiating with the City of Philadelphia and the sports
teams for the location of the new stadiums and their operations into the future.
We were determined not to have a repeat of the last 30 years where the sports
team were insensitive to the quality of life of the neighbors. As a
result, a lengthy agreement was negotiated with the city and the teams, which
lead to the birth of the 'Sports Complex Special Services District'.

1998-1999 We were responsible for the cleanup of the
SEPTA subway plaza at Broad & Oregon and negotiated with SEPTA to lease adjacent
property to the neighbors of Watts Street. This property has benefited
these neighbors by providing them with extended back yards. They improved
this additional space, at their own expense, by erecting decorative fencing and
planting flowers and shrubbery. Neighbors currently enjoy this area as a
terrace for their back yards.

1998 We were instrumental in having the City of
Philadelphia commit one million dollars for the Fels Community Center project.
In return, the owner of record (Caring People Alliance) incorporated the new
library into the construction plans. This is the
Fumo Family Branch of
the Free Library of Philadelphia.
|
 |
1995 The SPCCA participated in the planning and
construction of the
Fels Community Center at 2407 South Broad Street.
Thru our strong support and dedication to this project and with the assistance
of Councilwoman Anna Verna, we were successful in having the Free Library of
Philadelphia donate the old Children's Library building. This building was
rehabilitated and then incorporated in the construction plans for the new
community center.
